From RT to HiT to Campus

It's been a little over a week since 99.5 CampusFM debuted on Metro Manila radio. At this point, because I don't have a lot of time to go into details, let me begin by saying I'm very thankful to be part of it. As I mentioned in the pinoyexchange.com forum regarding the new incarnation of the 99.5 frequency, I'm very optimistic about the station's future. For the first time in a long time, it actually has a chance to rise above all the mediocrity being passed off as entertainment, which has plagued the FM band for too long a while. And it's an opportunity for a very popular radio brand to regain its former glory. More on this soon, only because it's difficult to organize my thoughts with my stomach competing for attention.

That Sinking Feeling
A shortage of “H-1B” visas for foreign technical employees is making things hard for U.S. employers. And Americans are unhappy that jobs are being outsourced to India and other countries, and some of the companies doing it are unhappy with the long-distance employees. Both problems could be fixed via a new scheme being promoted by software entrepreneur Roger Green and former ship captain David Cook. Their new business, “SeaCode”, proposes anchoring a retrofitted cruise ship in international waters off the California coast manned by 600 foreign software engineers linked to the mainland by a broadband Internet connection. “There are some major problems with managing something that is halfway around the world,” says Green, such as executives having to go “on three-week trips to Third World countries” to check on them. And what’s in it for the workers, besides having a job? “Do you remember the Love Boat?” asked Cook. “That’s the kind of facility we’re talking about.” (Boston Globe) ...Isaac and Doc are ready to rock.
