Smoking kills, part 2

Just thought I'd share some of the cigarette carton warnings from some other countries, as found on Wikipedia.

From the UK:

From Hong Kong:

From Canada:

Obviously, some governments figured if they can't convince you that smoking is bad for your heart and lungs, they'll scare you by saying that there's no more Mr. Happy if you don't quit soon.

But this one from Australia really drives it home, by using pictures instead of words to make it real to the smoker:

And here in The Philippines, well, our government still tries to be polite by simply making cartons bear the phrase: "Government warning, cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health".

Must be a lot of smokers in the government.

Cell Sale
While out drinking in Boston, Mass., Anthony J. Verani, 28, was approached by a man asking if he could make a call on Verani’s cell phone. Verani said sure: for $5. The man agreed and made the call, Verani says, but then only handed him $1 and ran off. Verani gave chase, aided by his brother, Michael, 27. The man jumped onto a transit bus, so the Veranis hailed a taxi and followed the bus to Newton, a $32 cab ride. When they jumped out of the cab to chase the man down when he got off the bus, they allegedly only gave the hack $22, so he too joined the chase to get the rest of his fare. The driver says the brothers beat the man they were chasing, then smashed him into his cab, breaking a mirror. Anthony was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — the cab — and Michael was charged with assault and battery. (Newton TAB) ...I was with them on principle until they stiffed the cabbie.
